Lab visits and seminars foster dialogue between researchers and those with lived experience of diabetes, allowing us to gain valuable insights into the priorities and concerns of the patient community.

Seminar for the Winchester Diabetes Support Group

In September 2024, we hosted a local support group for a seminar on 'Shedding Light on Insulin: Microscopy Tools in Research'. As well as updating attendees on our research, it was an opportunity for us to listen, answer questions, and better understand how our work can inform and improve future care.

Visit from Diabetes UK

In November 2023, we welcomed 20 Diabetes UK-affiliated visitors, including fundraisers, people with lived experience of diabetes and Diabetes UK staff members.

The visitors observed experiments and talked to researchers in the experimental laboratories, visited the clinical research unit and learned about the types of studies being conducted at OCDEM. They had rare access to the human islet isolation unit where they watched a video of islet-harvesting procedures for transplantation purposes.
