I am Professor of Transplantation at the University of Oxford and a consultant surgeon. My work focuses on turning immunological insight into practical therapies that improve outcomes after organ and cell transplantation, and on broadening the use of immune targeted treatments in inflammatory and immune mediated disease. I integrate mechanistic immunology, biomarker and tissue based human studies, and early phase clinical trials, with a consistent emphasis on safety, durability, and real world implementation.
The Translational Research Immunology Group (TRIG) brings together graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and clinical academics working across immunology, transplantation, tissue repair, and data driven translational science. We develop and test cellular and immunomodulatory therapies, and use deep immune profiling to understand mechanisms of response, resistance, and long term benefit. Our approach maintains a clear line of sight from discovery to patient impact.
Within Oxford, I serve as Associate Head of Department in the Nuffield Department of Surgical Sciences as Theme Lead for Surgical Sciences. I am also MSD Academic Lead for Research Funding and a Governing Body Fellow at Green Templeton College.
I am Editor in Chief of BMJ Immunology and an Executive Editor of Transplantation. I serve on the Steering Committee of FOCIS and previously chaired The Transplantation Society’s Transplantation Science Committee.
I am committed to building a rigorous and supportive training environment for early career researchers and clinicians, and welcome enquiries from prospective students, fellows, and collaborators.
